ICBC B13 Parking Margins Explained

Review curb clearance, parking restrictions, and stall positioning without trading a better position for a curb strike.

Parking margins include objects and markings

B13 covers leaving useful space around parked vehicles and objects, parking close to the curb, keeping pavement markings clear, and obeying parking restrictions. It is broader than measuring curb distance alone.

0:39

Check your final distance from the curb

The instructor describes parking too far from the curb as a common problem and uses roughly a foot as a teaching reference. Use references suited to your vehicle and finish with a safe, parallel position.

1:23

Avoid striking or climbing the curb

Do not force the car closer just to improve its position. The video contrasts a spacing error with the much more serious risk of mounting the curb or entering a lawn; make slow corrections while monitoring clearance.

1:47

Keep driveways and hydrants clear

Finish clear of driveways and fire hydrants, and read the posted restrictions. The instructor illustrates five metres around a hydrant; signs and the actual parking location still need to be checked.

2:58

Centre the car within a parking stall

Reverse-stall parking also involves margins. Avoid finishing on a line or crowding one side, and leave enough room for neighbouring vehicles and access.
