Video breakdown

Study the lesson by section

Each section below follows an explanation or demonstration in the video. Select a section to play from that point, then practise the skill with appropriate supervision.

0:01

Support your posture so pedal control stays relaxed

The lesson begins with the dead pedal in an automatic car: supporting the left foot helps stabilize the body so the right foot can control acceleration and braking. Adjust your seating and foot position for secure, comfortable reach.

2:00

Find a controlled right-foot position for the pedals

The instructor demonstrates a heel pivot and gentle pedal pressure. Use a position that fits your vehicle and allows full, reliable braking; do not adopt a toe-only contact that reduces control or follow a reference point unsuited to your body.

2:33

Check speed and choose it for a reason

Ask whether reduced speed is needed for a narrow road, curves or pedestrians, or whether you simply missed a speed change. Do not speed because the vehicles ahead are speeding. Keep quick speedometer glances within a wider forward scan.

3:30

Use easing off as well as gas and brake

Constant heavy alternation between pedals can make speed unstable. When safe, easing off may correct a small rise; use gentle braking when needed. The right response depends on road slope and hazards, not a rigid one-pedal rule.

5:30

Anticipate downhill acceleration and uphill speed loss

Read the slope before speed drifts far from the appropriate range. Apply controlled braking downhill and suitable acceleration uphill as needed, while remaining within the limit and maintaining observation during lane changes.
