Signal and check before entering the turn lane

Entering a dedicated turn lane is still a lane change. Signal, check the mirrors and shoulder-check before moving. A driver may have crossed the painted median early and already be beside you; do not assume a newly starting lane must be empty.

1:59

Keep the same checking habit beside a physical median

A physical median changes how another vehicle could approach, but it does not replace a consistent observation routine. Keep the same signal, mirror and shoulder-check sequence rather than deciding from turn to turn which checks to skip.

2:40

Adjust slowing to the length of the lane

If the lane is long enough and clear, enter safely and then slow within it. A short lane or a queue may require slowing earlier. Base the approach on the actual stopping room rather than delaying unnecessarily in the through lane.

3:34

Wait for the queue without cutting the median

When the left-turn queue reaches its entrance, wait in your lawful position. Do not drive across the painted median to make room for impatient drivers behind you. The video shows why going around a waiting car often saves no time at the red light.
