Wait until the turn lane actually starts

The vehicles cross the centre markings to reach the turn lane early. Saving a few seconds at an advance signal does not justify entering the opposing side or cutting the median. Approach the marked entrance instead.

Shoulder-check even at the start of a lane

The final example explains why a new lane is not necessarily empty: someone may already have entered it improperly. Check beside you before moving over; another driver’s mistake does not make your lane change safe.
