Signal early as you approach the right turn
Before the stop sign, communicate your plan early so drivers, pedestrians, and the examiner can see that you intend to turn right.
This short video shows the sequence for an ICBC Road Test right turn at a stop sign: signal early, stop before the first crosswalk line, shoulder check, inch forward, scan cross traffic, shoulder check again, and then turn. For North Vancouver learners, the key is to keep each step separate so the stop is legal, the crosswalk is respected, and the final turn does not start until the blind spot and cross traffic are clear.
The clip demonstrates the simple but important sequence: early signal, full stop before the crosswalk line, right shoulder check, careful inching, cross-traffic scan, second shoulder check, and controlled right turn.
Use these timestamped sections as a quick road-test checklist before practising right turns from stop signs.
Before the stop sign, communicate your plan early so drivers, pedestrians, and the examiner can see that you intend to turn right.
At a stop sign with a marked crosswalk, make the legal full stop before the first crosswalk line before you start inching forward.
Before moving into or toward the crosswalk area, check the right blind spot so you do not miss a pedestrian or cyclist approaching from behind.
Once you inch forward, check whether cross traffic is clear. Do not let the turn start just because your stop is complete.
If you paused or inched forward, shoulder check right again before steering into the turn. Blind-spot checks expire as the situation changes.
