Video breakdown

Study the lesson by section

Each section below follows an explanation or demonstration in the video. Select a section to play from that point, then practise the skill with appropriate supervision.

0:01

Identify the layout and read its controls

The introduction compares a small residential traffic circle with a larger roundabout. Size is a useful visual clue, but signs, lane arrows and markings govern how to approach and travel through the particular junction.

0:40

Communicate the intended turn and the roundabout exit

The lesson describes intersection-style signals at small traffic circles and a right exit signal at roundabouts. Follow the local arrangement; do not signal right on roundabout entry unless that actually communicates an immediate right exit.

1:23

Yield to circulating traffic and be ready for an unsafe entry

Approach yield controls at a speed that permits stopping. Watch circulating traffic and drivers entering too quickly; having priority does not remove the need to avoid a collision. The clip’s 10 km/h suggestion is not a posted limit for every circle.

3:35

Do not assume an unsignalled vehicle will exit

A vehicle already circulating may continue around even without a visible signal. Wait for its actual path to become clear rather than entering on the assumption that it will leave before reaching you.

5:14

Choose the correct approach lane and follow the exit markings

The final drawing discusses reaching a lane after the roundabout. Plan the approach using the posted lane arrows, stay in the assigned path and signal the exit. Do not cut diagonally across lanes or interpret the sketch as permission to exit from any lane.
