For a left turn, go straight in before turning
A correct left turn goes straight into the intersection first, then turns into the leftmost lane on the other side of the centre divide. Do not cut the centre line or swing right before turning.
Slow left turns to about 20 to 25 km/h
If you feel rushed or the vehicle is hard to control, you may be taking the turn too quickly. Around 20 to 25 km/h usually helps you avoid going wide or cutting the centre divide line.
For a right turn, enter the first available lane
Right turns still go into the first available lane. Stay with the curb shape, avoid clipping the curb, and do not borrow the next lane because the corner feels sharp.
Right turns usually work best around 15 km/h
A right turn near 15 km/h gives you time to steer with the curb. If the curb is not rounded, come up straight, slow more, and then turn around the corner.
Check curb clearance without steering away first
Steering too quickly can cause the right rear wheel to strike the curb, so use the right mirror for clearance. But do not steer left before turning right, because a passing vehicle may be beside you.
