Video breakdown

Study the lesson by section

Each section below follows an explanation or demonstration in the video. Select a section to play from that point, then practise the skill with appropriate supervision.

0:11

Merge by matching traffic and finding a safe gap

A merge sign warns that streams of traffic must join. Signal, observe and use the available acceleration lane to match traffic within the limit. Do not routinely stop at its end as though every merge has a yield control.

1:18

At yield, be ready to stop when necessary

A yield sign requires giving way to traffic and pedestrians as applicable. Approach at a speed that allows a stop before entering the conflicting path. There is no universal 10 km/h limit created by every yield sign.

2:57

A lane-ending sign requires a safe lane change

Identify which lane ends and plan a checked, signalled move into the continuing lane. The warning does not authorize forcing your way into an occupied gap. The video also contrasts yellow warning signs with the red-bordered yield control.
