Video breakdown

Study the lesson by section

Each section below follows an explanation or demonstration in the video. Select a section to play from that point, then practise the skill with appropriate supervision.

0:09

Control speed and keep checking mirrors on the hill

The approach includes uphill and downhill speed adjustments. Check lane position and rear traffic, and prepare to brake before the downhill slope carries you above the limit. This preparation happens before the turn-lane entry.

1:20

Enter with checks and wait on the ordinary green

The driver signals, checks mirrors and shoulder-checks into the left lane. No advance arrow appears, so the ordinary green requires yielding to oncoming traffic. Use an appropriate waiting position rather than treating green as a protected turn.

2:20

Monitor the light, pedestrians and the developing gap

While waiting, watch the signal, oncoming vehicles and crossing. After the red SUV passes, the driver refreshes the shoulder check and completes the turn. The decision follows the actual traffic movement, not a preselected car count.
