Video breakdown

Study the lesson by section

Each section below follows an explanation or demonstration in the video. Select a section to play from that point, then practise the skill with appropriate supervision.

0:03

Leave the parking lot and prepare the first left turn

Stop before crossing the sidewalk, check for people and traffic, then signal and check into the turn lane. Assess the pedestrian crossing and oncoming gap before turning into the proper lane.

0:33

Maintain stopping space and scan as the queue moves

The drive includes a red-light queue and continuing mirror checks as traffic starts. Leave useful stopping room, monitor rear traffic and scan the junction while proceeding rather than focusing only on the brake lights ahead.

1:23

Signal early and revise the left-turn plan

The next turn reveals oncoming traffic as the driver slows. Yield, use the developing gap and check before turning. The subsequent 40 km/h zone and hill require speed control; the stated coaching wiggle room is not permission to exceed the limit.

2:48

Recheck a pedestrian-controlled crossing as its phase changes

At the stop-controlled approach, the driver notices the crossroad’s flashing green changing to yellow and red, then waits for pedestrians. Read your own controls and refresh the blind-spot check before proceeding behind the pedestrian when safe.

4:04

Adapt the waiting position to the small intersection

The final signalized left turn uses a more restrained position because the receiving road is small. Keep pedestrian routes and opposing movements clear, assess the gap afresh, and turn only when safe. Do not turn a vehicle-specific reference into a universal stopping rule.

5:15

Look past obstructions and read the school-zone times

The last turn initially has restricted visibility behind a truck. Obtain a clear view before committing. The school-zone comment refers to the recording’s season; always follow the actual posted operating days and times rather than assuming summer removes every restriction.
